Dundas Square was the epicentre for Biebermania Tuesday as a couple of hundred screaming Justin Bieber fans hoped to catch a glimpse of the teen pop star.
Bieber, 16, was in Toronto promoting his upcoming film, Never Say Never. After an interview at MuchMusic, the Stratford singer headed to AMC Theatres at Yonge and Dundas Sts. for the world premiere of his movie with fans, family and friends.
“I got a picture, but not with him, but that’s enough,” said Daniella, 15, who waited four hours outside of MuchMusic to see the Bieber interview. “His lyrics are meaningful to me. I would’ve asked for his number.”
The crowd began chanting, “Justin” outside the theatre, shortly before the star posed for photos for media outlets.
“I love Justin Bieber so much,” said Clayton Jacobson, 14, from Toronto. “I really want this. I’ve been here since the morning. He’s really cute and he has really good songs.”
The Juno-nominated teen heartthrob signed some autographs for fans in the theatre before introducing his film.
Bieber’s 66-year-old grandfather Bruce Dale made it from Stratford to support his grandson.
“It’s pretty amazing, being there, watching him,” Dale said. “I’ve travelled to a lot of his concerts, he’s sold every one out and everyone gets louder and louder.”
It seemed right to debut the film here — on home turf, Dale added.
“He wants his friends around,” he said. “When he comes back to Canada, he wants to see his friends.”
