If the Internet is one big popularity contest, then the new girl in school just earned a spot at the cool kids' table.
A company that tracks the performance of web videos announced today that the no-budget video for Rebecca Black's annoyingly infectious hit "Friday" has been viewed more times than the latest clips from Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga. Millions of more times. In fact, if you factor in spoofs and cover versions of the song, "Friday" has been streamed online about 30 million more times than Gaga's "Born This Way."
So how does Gaga feel about the competition? Predictably, the champion of the underdog is in Black's corner. She recently called "Friday" "genius," which was understandably a big thrill for 13 year-old Rebecca. "I'm 13 and I never thought Lady Gaga would even know my name.
